Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister Outlines Efforts To Address Visa Denials

The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling the issue of visa denials faced by Nigerians seeking entry to other countries.

Speaking at a briefing in Abuja, the Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar emphasized ongoing efforts to engage with nations where such denials are prevalent. He stressed the importance of these engagements in protecting the collective interests of Nigerian citizens.

“It should be noted that Nigeria has one of the highest global mobility in the world,” Tuggar stated.

Outlining progress made under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Tuggar detailed various diplomatic initiatives. These included signing 25 Memorandums of Understanding across diverse fields, engaging with stakeholders within Nigeria (74) and abroad (236), and fostering connections with the diaspora through five dedicated events.

Tuggar further revealed that over 10,000 diaspora members were engaged, 56 bilateral meetings held, and three significant international commissions convened, including the EU-Senior Officials Meeting and the US-Binational Commission.

The minister also assured the safety of returning Nigerians, citing President Tinubu’s proactive approach to national security.
