Uzodinma Wins As Tribunal Upholds Election, Dismisses LP’s Appeal

The Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma has been affirmed as the winner of the November 11, 2023 gubernatorial election in the state.

He was affirmed the winner by an Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja on Friday and the court dismissed the petition of Labour Party (LP) and it’s governoship candidate, Athan Achonu.

The three-member Tribunal, led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay, issued a unanimous ruling stating that Uzodimma’s election as Imo State governor was in substantial compliance with the Electoral Act.

Also, the Tribunal determined that the Labour Party’s petition did not provide sufficient evidence to support the claims of overvoting and non-compliance with the Electoral Act.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the governor winner of the November 11 election after he scored a total of 540,308 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Senator Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 71,503 votes while Achonu, came third with 64,081 votes.
