Dafinone moves to immortalise late Pius Ewherido

THE Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Ede Dafinone has finalised arrangements towards immortalising the former Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District in the Red Chambers, late Pius Akpor Ewherido.

As a result, an Urhobo Language Competition for students of Delta Central origin in Secondary and Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria is being organised.

Senator Dafinone said the competition is in recognition of late Ewherido’s effort towards promoting the Urhobo language and culture during his lifetime.

He explained that the competition will be in collaboration with the Urhobo Studies Association.

Prizes to be won by participants are as follows: 1st (N500,000), 2nd (N300,000), 3rd (N200,000) and N100,000 each for the 3rd to 9th runners up (4th-10th position) as consolation.

The first stage of the competition will be taking place on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at three centres, namely, Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU); Government College, Ughelli and Urhobo College, Effurun by 10:00 a.m while the second stage will hold on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at DELSU, Abraka.
Grand finale takes place on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the Urhobo Progress Union Cultural Centre, Uvwiamuge-Agbarho.
