Daisy Ridley's Perfect Star Wars Replacement Is Her Dream Role In This $4.5 Billion Franchise

Summary

  • Daisy Ridley is seeking a role in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise after her Star Wars success.
  • Ridley’s connections in the industry and experience with Disney make her dream of joining the Pirates universe seem achievable.
  • Joining Pirates would offer Ridley a new challenge while providing familiarity in a blockbuster franchise setting.

Daisy Ridley shot to fame as Rey in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, but five years after last playing the role, she may have found her perfect franchise replacement. When Ridley took on the lead role in 2015’s The Force Awakens, Ridley was a largely unknown entity. She appeared as Rey again in The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. Additionally, Daisy Ridley’s Star Wars return has come sooner than predicted, with the actress set to star in a new entry in the series. Outside of Star Wars, however, Ridley hasn’t had the same level of success.

In recent years, Daisy Ridley’s post-Star Wars filmography has largely consisted of lower-budget and indie films, including the 2023 psychological thriller The Marsh King’s Daughter, the dystopian sci-fi Chaos Walking, and the romantic comedy-drama Sometimes I Think About Dying, on which she also served as a producer. Critically, Ridley’s movies have been rather mixed, while commercially, they’ve struggled to make much of an impact. Nevertheless, if the actress gets her way, she may soon be starring in another blockbuster franchise.

Daisy Ridley Wants To Join The Pirates Of The Caribbean Franchise

She’s Made Her Intentions To Join The Blockbuster Series Very Clear

Daisy Ridley recently revealed that she had approached movie producer Jerry Bruckheimer about playing a role in an upcoming entry in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. In an interview with The Times, she said, “Oh, I had a word. I’m shameless. People think I’m one tool short of the box, but I was like, ‘Please give me a ‘Pirates’ job!’Ridley has just finished working with Bruckheimer, the producer of every Pirates of the Caribbean movie since 2003’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, on the biographical drama The Young Woman and the Sea.

Ridley would be a great option for a
Pirates
reboot due to her past experience leading a blockbuster franchise.

A reboot of the Pirates of the Caribbean series is thought to be in the early stages of development, with Bruckheimer himself detailing how the intention is for the franchise to move away from Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow and focus on new characters played by different stars. A Margot Robbie-led Pirates of the Caribbean movie was thought to be a priority. However, that no longer appears to be the case based on delays in progress with the spinoff. Nevertheless, Ridley would be a great option for a Pirates reboot due to her past experience leading a blockbuster franchise.

Daisy Ridley’s Connections Make A Pirates Of The Caribbean Role Seem Likely

The Actress Knows The Right People To Make Her Dream A Reality

Ridley’s boldness is certainly admirable. After all, few actors would outright ask for a lead role in one of the most successful movie franchises of all time. Then again, most other actors don’t find themselves in as good a position as Ridley. Though she may not be the biggest star on the planet, and despite a disappointing track record, Ridley’s connections mean that the chances of her winning a role in a Pirates of the Caribbean movie look pretty good.

Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the many film properties owned by Disney, and, thanks to Star Wars, Ridley already has lots of experience with the House of Mouse. It’s likely that she has a strong relationship with important people at Disney, and her willingness to return to the role of Rey demonstrates that, unlike some of her co-stars, Ridley doesn’t feel disillusioned by her time working on Star Wars. Add to that her connection to Bruckheimer owing to their recent collaboration, and it’s almost hard to imagine Ridley’s wish to star in a Pirates movie not coming true.

As it stands, it’s unknown whether Daisy Ridley’s return to the Star Wars universe in Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s upcoming film is a one-off or whether the movie is intended to be the first installment in a new trilogy. If it’s the latter, Ridley may not need nor have time to star in a Pirates of the Caribbean reboot. However, if she intends on reprising the role of Rey for one final time and no more, then Pirates of the Caribbean would be the perfect franchise replacement for the actress.

If Ridley

were to join the
Pirates
universe, she already possesses a wealth of transferable skills.

Describing Pirates of the Caribbean as effectively Star Wars of the sea isn’t accurate and does a huge disservice to both properties, yet, at the same time, there’s some truth in it. They both involve a disparate band of outcasts setting off on adventures, taking on foes, and sword-fighting their way out of tricky situations. If Ridley were to join the Pirates universe, she already possesses a wealth of transferable skills. Such a role would give Daisy Ridley the security and familiarity of a blockbuster franchise while providing her with a new challenge that she would no doubt rise to.
