Dennis Osadebay University embraces virtual learning

Dennis Osadebay University (DOU), Asaba, Delta State, has infused technology into its pedagogy by adopting hybrid teaching.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Prof Ben Oghojafor, Vice Chancellor of DOU made this known while speaking with journalists in Asaba on Monday.

Prof Oghojafor, represented by Prof Dode Oghenedoro, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, disclosed that the hybrid teaching facility located in the administrative building can reach students all over the world through virtual learning.

“Where we are now is the administrative building of this university. In the council chamber, we have an electronic smart board with which we can teach students from any location in the world from  here.

“In the aftermath of COVID-19, the world embraced digital learning and when this administrative building was conceived, considerations were made for virtual learning. So, we have that capacity here,” Oghojafor said.

Recall that DOU is one of the three universities established by the Delta State Government and approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2021.

The university, located in Anwai, Asaba was formerly a campus of the Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka. The main focus of the campus then was agriculture.

However, the university is now comprised of six faculties: Agriculture, Science, Management and Social Sciences, Environmental Science, Arts and Computing.

Oghojafor said the administrative building was graciously provided by the State government as part of efforts to upgrade facilities in the university.

“There was nothing like this here two years ago. As of November 2021, the Vice Chancellor’s office was one makeshift building. What you are seeing was graciously provided to us by the government in less than two years after the university started.

“The project started in the administration of Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and was completed by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori,” he said.

Speaking further, Oghojafor said the Oborevwori administration also completed the Faculty of Agriculture multipurpose complex and two auditoriums with 1000 capacity.

“The Faculty of Agriculture complex houses staff offices, from the Dean to all categories of lecturers. We have laboratories; we have classrooms, and we have conference centres here.

“As a matter of fact, to my right and my left are adjoining buildings to this. Those are 500 capacity auditoriums attached to this. The one to left has a mini library that is also digitally inclined,” he said.
