Havertz and Musiala score in Dortmund after heavy storm hit Signal Iduna Park
Germany advanced to the EURO 2024 quarter-finals with second-half goals from Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala, securing a 2-0 victory over Denmark in Dortmund. The match began under balmy conditions, but dark clouds and an eventual storm brought a temporary halt to proceedings.

Germany started the match strongly, with Nico Schlotterbeck narrowly missing a header and both Joshua Kimmich and Havertz testing Denmark’s goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel. Despite Germany’s early dominance, Denmark managed to hold their defense, and just as heavy rain started, they found their rhythm. However, the inclement weather led to a suspension of the match around the 35-minute mark.
Upon resumption, Germany maintained their pressure. Havertz’s header required a good save from Schmeichel, and Manuel Neuer, Germany’s veteran goalkeeper, made a crucial stop against Rasmus Højlund on a counterattack.
The second half continued in a similar end-to-end fashion. Joachim Andersen had a goal disallowed for offside before he was penalized for a handball, leading to Havertz scoring from the penalty spot. Both Havertz and Højlund came close to scoring again before Musiala, with a composed finish from Schlotterbeck’s long ball, sealed Germany’s victory.

The win sets up a quarter-final match against either Spain or Georgia on Friday.
