Katsina: FUDMA, UMYU varsities’ ASUU chapter issues FG 3-week ultimatum

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), branches of the Federal University, Dutsinma and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University, Katsina, have given the federal government a three- week ultimatum to address their demands or face industrial action.

Chairperson, ASUU-FUDMA, Comrade Ahmed Yusuf Omeiza, on behalf of the two branches, revealed this while briefing journalists in Katsina, Monday.

Omeiza   lamented the federal government’s nonchalant and reluctant position in proffering a lasting solution to the outstanding issues with the union.

 He said the last time the government had a negotiated agreement with ASUU was in 2009 which provided for review every three years.

“In 2017, the FG constituted a committee to negotiate the agreement with no result in the first three years under Wale Babalakin- led committee.”

He maintained that the Professor Munzali Jibril- led committee was replaced with the late Prof. Emeritus Nimi Briggs committee that produced a draft agreement which was truncated at the point of signing.

Amongst other contending issues the union raised include the release of three and half months of withheld salaries for work done, unpaid salaries of its members on sabbatical, others due to IPPIS inadequacy and inefficiency.
