NSCDC Arrests 4 Vandals, Recovers Stolen Armoured Cables, AK-47 Rifle In Abuja
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory Command, has apprehended four suspected vandals in the Dabi Bako area of the Kwali Area Council, Abuja.
The suspects were arrested during a routine patrol by the Command’s anti-vandal team, where one of the suspects was caught vandalizing armoured cables at the National Mathematical Centre (NMC), small Sheda, Kwali, kwali Area council, Abuja.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Samuel A. Idoko, revealed that one suspect under interrogation made useful confessions that led to the arrest of three other accomplices and the recovery of additional stolen armoured cables already on its way to the market.
The suspects were identified as Amodu Lawal (20, Katsina), Zaki Idris (32, Kano), Suleiman Yunusa (25, Kano), and Isa Abdulrazak (38, Kano).
Idoko further stated that investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with the NSCDC Act, which grants the Corps the authority to arrest, detain, and prosecute individuals in the name of the Attorney General of the Federation (NSCDC Act Section 3:1f).
In a related incident, the Command’s Anti-Vandal unit also discovered an AK-47 rifle without its magazine in a farmland in Abaji Area Council.
According to the farm owner who alerted the men on patrol, the rifle was discovered by him in his maize farm upon his arrival early in the morning at about 7am to work on his farm.
The Command said the rifle has been recovered and taken to the Command’s headquarters for further investigation to unravel the ownership and source of the rifle.
The NSCDC FCT Commandant, Dr Olusola Odumosu, lauded the anti-vandal team for their bravery and dedication to protecting critical infrastructure and ensuring the safety of FCT residents.
Odumosu urged the team to intensify their efforts to eliminate vandalism and arrest those responsible for damaging public utilities.
He also praised the farm owner for his vigilance and prompt reporting of the rifle, and encouraged other citizens to emulate this patriotic behaviour by reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest security agencies.
“We want to assure all residents of the FCT that we will not rest on our oars. We are determined to keep you safe and ensure the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure in the FCT,” Odumosu said.
He assured FCT residents of the Corps commitment to their safety and the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure which is already yielding positive results.
