One Piece season 2 has cast four major new villains for the upcoming episodes, including important characters portrayed by Oppenheimer and Raised by Wolves stars. One Piece season 1 ended with Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates on their way to the Grand Line, while also teasing one of their stops just before they get there. However, season 2 is confirmed to include elements of the Arabasta Saga, the next major portion of the manga, which includes the group’s first adventure outside the East Blue.

Now, Variety reports that four major villains for One Piece season 2 have been cast. Season 2 will see David Dastmalchian (Oppenheimer) as Mr. 3, Daniel Lasker (Raised by Wolves) as Mr. 9, Camrus Johnson (Batwoman) as Mr. 5, and Jazzara Jaslyn (Warrior) as Miss Valentine. All four of these antagonists are part of a group called Baroque Works, who serve as the main threat of the Arabasta Saga – and, subsequently, season 2 of the adaptation.

What One Piece’s Villain Casting Means For Season 2

One Piece season 2 was previously confirmed to include elements of the Arabasta Saga, such as Chopper making his debut, when it was first announced. The casting of Baroque Works members confirms their importance in the story, following the manga’s plot in much the same way. The organization poses a major threat to the group when they first arrive in the Grand Line, compounded by a new mission they embark upon that involves saving a country from being destroyed by the group.

Thanks to these casting announcements, it appears season 2 will be following very closely to the source material, introducing a number of characters from the organization building up the larger story at play. This also likely means more information will be coming soon about other key characters in the Arabasta Saga, such as Vivi Nefertari and Crocodile. Since the upcoming story arc is much more complex than the first, a multitude of other Baroque Works agents will likely be announced as the release of season 2 draws closer.

With so many new characters in One Piece season 2’s cast, this announcement is just the first of many that will likely be made in the near future. However, the cast members announced are the first members of Baroque Works Luffy and his friends encounter, meaning they’ll be giving off the first impression of what to expect from the villainous organization. Given the talent behind the casting choices, it seems they’ll be able to deliver a perfect introduction to the group while teasing the other members that get introduced later on.

One Piece
season 2 begins filming this month in South Africa.
