Umbrella Academy Season 4 Trailer Teases A Big Time Skip After Season 3's Ending

The first teaser trailer for The Umbrella Academy season 4 doesn’t give the plot away, but it does have many hints of where this season will take the Hargreeves, including teases about a time jump. The Umbrella Academy has various questions that will have to be solved in the upcoming fourth and final season, but it will also add more conflict and mysteries to the Hargreeves’ final mission. The Umbrella Academy season 3 ended on a major cliffhanger as Reginald’s plans to reset the timeline succeeded, despite being killed by Allison before he could pull the lever.

Allison finished the timeline’s reset and the result was the Hargreeves arriving at a timeline where Reginald and his wife are alive, Allison has the family she wanted, Sloane is nowhere to be seen, and all the Hargreeves and Lila are now powerless. Luckily, The Umbrella Academy season 4’s first teaser trailer showed that the Hargreeves will regain their powers, but it might not happen as soon as they would have liked, as this season is teasing a big time jump, as seen in one scene featuring Diego.

The Umbrella Academy Season 4 Teaser Hints At How Much Time Has Passed Between Seasons

At the end of The Umbrella Academy season 3, once the Hargreeves realized they no longer have powers, they all went their separate ways. The teaser gives quick glimpses of each of the Umbrella Academy members and Sparrow Ben on their own, with Five at a subway station (and the look on his face implies he’s looking for something), Viktor working at a bar, Allison with her daughter, Ben coming out of prison, Luther putting on an astronaut suit, Klaus hanging upside down, and Diego at a kids’ party.

Diego is shown helping a young girl prepare to hit a piñata, implying this is his daughter, but as Lila isn’t shown in any of these bits, that might not be her daughter. At the end of The Umbrella Academy season 3, Lila was pregnant, but the timeline reset and the loss of their powers raised the question of whether Lila’s pregnancy was also erased in the new timeline or not. Even if that girl isn’t Diego’s daughter but that’s still his kid’s party, this scene shows that around four to six years have passed since the Hargreeves arrived at Reginald’s new timeline.

This type of time jump isn’t new in The Umbrella Academy, as season 2 had a similar one when each of the Hargreeves landed in a different year, so they moved on with their lives in very different ways. However, the Hargreeves are now in the same year, and it seems like most of them haven’t seen each other in a long time. The only one that might still be in contact with, at least, one of his siblings is Luther, as there’s a scene in the trailer of Luther in a ball pit, hinting at him being at the party of Diego’s child.

The time jump in The Umbrella Academy season 4 shows that the Hargreeves are quite comfortable in this new timeline, enough to carry on with their lives, so there will have to be something truly big and important to bring them back together. The Hargreeves might be about to face the biggest threat they have ever encountered in The Umbrella Academy season 4, enough for them to leave their new lives behind, get their powers back, and team up for a rescue mission with the help of Reginald.
