Enugu: Foundation graduates 2, 075 women, youths on skill acquisition
A non-governmental organisation, The Potters Wheel Foundation (TPWF), has graduated 2, 075 women and youth, who underwent three week intensive training on different entrepreneurial and vocational skills in Enugu.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony held at the Indoor Sports Hall, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Enugu, the president of TPWF, Mr Godsown Onuzulike, extolled the graduands for their hard work, dedication and passion.
Onuzulike said out of the 2, 075 graduates, 75 women and youth selected from 165 trainees had completed their free vocational and entrepreneurship training while 2000 from the 36 states of the federation, including FCT participated in the online training and were also graduating.
He explained that the trainees underwent rigorous evaluations, including practicals, written exams, and one-on-one assessments, after their three weeks practical training on baking and confectionary and natural beverages.
Others are hygienic, skincare products, craft, social media marketing, a business managerial soft and digital skill.
Onuzulike, who is the founder of TPWF, added that the foundation trained the beneficiaries in collaboration with Enugu State Ministry of Youths and Sports.
According to him, despite challenges in sourcing materials, funding, and logistics, the organisation’s resolve to equip youth and women with vocational and entrepreneurial skills remains unwavering and unrelenting.
While commending Governor Peter Mbah for his support and providing them enabling environment for the Foundation to thrive, the president, appealed for start-up grants for the graduands, a shared facility for NAFDAC approval and a bus for the foundation.
In an address, the Enugu state deputy governor, Mr Ifeanyi Ossai, said the initiatives undertaken by the TPWF in the realm of education and economic empowerment were commendable.
Ossai, represented by the Secretary Enugu State Boundary Committee, Dr Solomon Ejim, acknowledged that government efforts alone were not enough to address the challenges of unemployment in the country.
