Every Time Sam Fought Tory In Cobra Kai

Warning! Contains Spoilers for Cobra Kai season 6, part 1.

Summary

  • Sam and Tory’s rivalry in Cobra Kai evolved from a heated dislike to intense fights, shaping the narrative of the series.
  • Despite their intense conflicts, Sam and Tory’s final showdown is driven by a desire to end their rivalry for good.
  • The development of Sam and Tory’s relationship highlights the theme of growth and redemption in the Netflix series Cobra Kai.

Since Tory and Sam have been rivals since Cobra Kai season 2, they have fought many times up till season 6, part 1. Although Sam and Tory got off on the wrong foot in Cobra Kai season 2, and their relationship worsened because they represented opposing dojos, they have now come a long way. As seen in Cobra Kai season 6, part 1, they might still have to fight one last time before the Netflix series comes to an end. However, the show’s story developments suggest that their final fight will be driven less by animosity and more by a desire to end their rivalry for good.

However, before the two characters became friends, there was a time when they could not even stand the sight of one another. Every time they ended up in the same place at the same time, a fight was bound to break loose. Owing to this, even though Cobra Kai has featured many character rivalries since its beginning, Sam and Tory’s has been one of the most intense and memorable, serving as the trigger for several white-knuckling fights in the franchise.

Every Time Miguel Fought Robby In Cobra Kai

Miguel and Robby have carried their rivalry in Cobra Kai from beginning to end, though the nature of it has changed with each fight (and victory).

7 The Pool Party Scuffle – Season 2

Winner: Tory

Since Tory was not a part of Cobra Kai‘s roster in season 1 and Sam stayed away from practicing karate almost throughout the first installment of the show, their first fight did not happen until season 2. It all began when Sam instantly started disliking Tory and accused her of stealing her mother’s wallet at a pool party. When Tory brushed off her claims and attempted to flee the scene, Sam grabbed her bag. Although Tory did not intend to initiate a physical fight, she accidentally pushed Sam. As a result, Sam fell over a table full of food, with all the food landing over her clothes and face.

This fight never escalated to punches and kicks and Sam controlled her anger instead of lashing out at Tory. Although Tory seemed shocked when Sam fell over the table, she did not apologize, realizing it was too late. Infuriated by the events, Sam only seemed to get mad at Aisha for being friends with Tory. However, as Tory and Sam’s long conflict in Cobra Kai suggests, this event served as a seed that eventually planted the deep-seated animosity between them.

6 The Skating Party Confrontation – Season 2

Winner: Sam

Things get even more heated between the two characters when they end up at a skating party at the same time. While Sam goes with Robby, Tory shows up with Miguel. Surprised after seeing Miguel with Tory, Sam confronts him by asking why he is with Tory. This, for obvious reasons, offends Tory, and she seeks revenge by knocking Sam down after attacking her from behind. Instead of holding herself back like the last time, Sam decides to teach Tory a lesson. Therefore, she drop-kicks her, leaving Tory flat on the ground with her plates of food all over her.

Even in this confrontation, however, the two characters do not take things too far. Despite falling to the ground and hurting her head, Tory avoids turning the scuffle into a full-fledged battle. Instead, she channels her anger and hate towards Sam during her training at the Cobra Kai dojo. Meanwhile, Sam, too, starts finding her karate rhythm again after not practicing the martial arts for years.

5 The High-School Showdown – Season 2

Winner: Sam

Tory reaches the end of her wits when she sees Miguel and Sam kissing at Moon’s birthday party. Therefore, the next morning, she shows up at Sam’s school and uses the intercom to threaten and challenge her. Moments later, the bell for the interval rings and all the students gather around Tory and Sam as they prepare to fight. Since Sam conforms to Miyagi Do’s philosophies, she does not strike first and even tries to avoid fighting by walking away. Tory, however, grabs her bag and pulls her right back in. Soon, Sam and Tory’s brawl prompts other Miyagi Do and Cobra Kai students to duke it out in school.

Even though Sam wins the high-school fight, she sustains several severe injuries, including a broken rib and three deep scars from the punch on her arm.

During the initial moments of the fight, Sam and Tory fight toe-to-toe, with Tory slowly gaining the upper hand. However, Mr. Miyagi’s incredible defensive techniques eventually come in handy as Sam starts overpowering Tory. After being consumed by her hate, Tory reminds Sam that they are not fighting in a tournament before she wraps her spiky bracelet around her knuckles. Then, she immobilizes Sam by punching her arm with her bracelet-wrapped knuckle and grabs her hair to land one final blow. Sam, however, does not back down and manages to defend herself before getting up and kicking Tory off the stairs.

Even though Sam wins the high-school fight, she sustains several severe injuries, including a broken rib and three deep scars from the punch on her arm. In the fight’s aftermath, she also keeps blaming herself for causing it and remains traumatized almost throughout Cobra Kai season 3. Meanwhile, Tory gets expelled from school, Miguel ends up in the hospital, and Robby lands in a juvenile detention center.

All the karate action and 1980s-inspired nostalgia are back in Cobra Kai season 6, with a soundtrack that perfectly sets the tone for the finale.

4 The LaRusso House Fight – Season 3

Winner: Sam

Almost throughout Cobra Kai season 3, Sam gets flashbacks of the school brawl and even dreams about Tory overpowering her in a fight. In the meantime, Tory seems to be out for blood after losing her fight with Sam in Cobra Kai season 2’s ending. Although Sam avoids running into Tory throughout season 3’s runtime, she comes face to face with her at the LaRusso house when students from the Cobra Kai dojo initiate a surprise attack on Eagle Fang and Miyagi Do students at Kreese’s command.

Realizing she still has not recovered from her trauma, Sam initially runs away from Tory and avoids fighting her. Tory, on the other hand, aggressively chases her, determined to show her she is better. With her guard down, Sam struggles to keep up with Tory’s relentless attacks. However, she eventually garners the strength to fight back when Tory picks up a nunchaku to beat her down. Before Tory can attack her again, Sam uses a bล staff to disarm her and tells her she is not afraid of her.

3 The Prom Night Tag Team – Season 4

Winner: Tory

Sam and Miguel decide to forget about karate for a while before heading to their school’s prom night. Everything even seems fine until the two run into Tory and Robby at Stingray’s afterparty. Sam triggers the fight by insulting Tory, and, as always, Tory strikes first. Although Sam initially backs out, she recalls the lessons Johnny Lawrence taught her and decides not to take “s**t” anymore. Therefore, she fights back before Miguel shows up to stop her.

History repeats itself when Miguel attempts to de-escalate Tory and Sam’s fight, but Robby misinterprets the situation and attacks him. This marks the beginning of a tag team brawl where Robby and Tory’s combined Cobra Kai lessons pay off well. Unlike Sam and Miguel, the two show incredible chemistry and teamwork as they dominate the opposing duo.

2 The All-Valley Tournament – Season 4

Winner: Tory

Cobra Kai season 4 ends with another All-Valley Tournament in which Sam and Tory get the opportunity to finally settle the score with a sanctioned karate bout. Unfortunately for Sam, Silver bribes the referee to ensure he scores the fight in Tory’s favor. Owing to this, Sam does not earn a point even after pushing Tory out of bounds during the showdown. Moreover, even Tory does not lose a point despite hitting Sam in the eye. With this, Tory unfairly wins the All-Valley Tournament’s girls division, which ultimately helps the Cobra Kai dojo win the grand champion trophy.

1 Sekai Taikai Team Captain Selections – Season 6

No Contest

After teaming up and burying their beef in Cobra Kai season 5, Sam and Tory start warming up to one another as they train together at the Miyagi Do dojo. However, after being at odds for almost five seasons, the two are unable to fight with each other even when their senseis ask them to. Johnny Lawrence attempts to create some rivalry between them, hoping that it will trigger the fire that previously made them incredible fighters. To his dismay, none of it works until Sam and Tory open up about their underlying issues and finally apologize for their past actions.

To everyone’s surprise, Tory rejoins Cobra Kai and represents Johnny and Kim’s team at the Sekai Taikai.

As Cobra Kai’s Sekai Taikai tournament inches closer, Miyagi Do’s fighters learn that only six of them can represent the dojo, and two among the selected students will be the captains. While Miguel and Robby duke it out to determine who will lead the boys, Tory and Miguel are expected to fight to determine who will lead the girls. However, midway through their fight, Daniel learns that Tory’s mother passed away. Realizing that Tory should not be fighting while grieving her mother’s demise, Daniel stops the fight even though Tory insists she must continue fighting.

With what follows, Tory leaves Miyagi Do dojo, while Sam becomes the second captain. To everyone’s surprise, Tory rejoins Cobra Kai and represents Johnny and Kim’s team at the Sekai Taikai. This new development in Cobra Kai season 6 part 1’s ending sets up a final showdown between Tory and Sam at the Sekai Taikai.
