Gunmen Wreak Havoc In Ahoada East As Two More Killed, Community Appeals For Police Help

Tragedy struck again in Rivers State as gunmen suspected to be cultists killed two persons at Odiokwu junction in Ula-Ehuda, Igbu Akoh-Kingdom, Ahoada East Local Government Area, just 24 hours after a similar incident in Edeoha Community, Upata kingdom, Ahoada East LGA, where five persons lost their lives.

According to Hector Chinem, Public Relations Officer of Igbu-Akoh kingdom, locals observed suspicious movements on Sunday night, October 20, 2024, with individuals dressed in coveralls and military rainwear. Unfortunately, on Monday morning, October 21, 2024, two youths were found dead with bullet wounds.

The spokesperson for the Igbu-Akoh kingdom regretted that the killing was coming barely twenty -hours after five persons were killed in the Edeoha community.

Mr Chinem called on the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Mustapha to as a matter of urgency strengthen the security of the area as the remnants of cult groups have invaded the communities.

Mr Chinem equally pleaded with the Youth of the LGA to lay down their arms and allow peace reign.

As of Monday afternoon, reports available to us indicate that there is heightened tension in the LGA as some natives have started fleeing.

The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko was yet to respond to the Monday killing.

SP Koko had on Sunday, October 20th,2024 confirmed the killing at Edeoha saying is cult related.SP Koko added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Mustapha had directed the Ahoada Area Commander and the Divisional Police Officer(DPO) of the Ahoada Police Division to commence an investigation into the incident to apprehend the perpetrators.

At press time, we gathered that the family of the deceased had taken the corpse for burial.
