The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that one of its personnel has been hacked to death by commercial motor cyclists popularly known as Okada riders at the Pen Cinema area of the state.
Blueprint gathered that the police officer and his team were sent to the scene of an accident to evacuate a truck to enable the free flow of vehicular movement when they were mobbed by irate motorcyclists.
The State Commandโs spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the death of the police officer to newsmen today.
He remarked that the truck driver had killed a motorcycle rider who ran into the trailer at WEMPCO Junction, Mobil Road, Pen Cinema, Agege in the early hours of today.
He said: โBased on the report, a patrol team was mobilized to the scene. On arrival, the team met a large number of motorcycle riders gathered.
โThe patrol team in the process of evacuating the truck away from the scene came under attack by the motorcycle riders who insisted on torching the truck.
โAs a result, one Assistant Supritendent of Police (ASP) 46 years was injured on the head, and he died on the spot while the truck driver escapedโ
Hundeyin further stated that the corpses have been evacuated to the Mainland General Hospital morgue, Yaba for autopsy.
He added that 5 suspects have been arrested and a manhunt launched for other fleeing suspects.
