Outlander: Blood Of My Blood – Cast, Story & Everything We Know

Outlander: Blood of My Blood is the upcoming prequel to Outlander, and the spinoff looks primed to continue the legacy of its parent show with more unique storytelling and authentic romance. Outlander has been a hugely successful project thus far, chronicling the romantic relationship between Jamie and Claire after the latter is sent back in time to Scotland in the 18th century. The prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, will replace the main show after its eighth and final season, following Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser.

Outlander is based on the novels by Diana Gabaldon, and will end with season 8. Outlander: Blood of My Blood will also tell a story that goes far beyond Gabaldon’s novels, building on what’s been shown of Jamie’s parents and their epic romance that defied societal norms and demands. Certain details about Outlander: Blood of My Bloodโ€™s story and cast are already beginning to surface โ€” and although the anticipation for the Outlander prequel series is high, there’s much still to learn.

The centuries-spanning pictures show Claire’s parents sitting together in a vintage WWI-era car, and also embracing as Henry prepares to go off to war. The other images center on Jamie’s parents as they too embrace and pose while looking toward the camera. Much is still unknown about the prequel spinoff, but the costume design is already proving to be as detailed as the original series.

The announcement of Outlander: Blood of My Blood came early in 2023 when it was also announced that Outlanderโ€™s eighth season would conclude the narrative and end the show. This gives the crew plenty of time to continue working on Outlander: Blood of My Blood before the main show ends, crafting a story thatโ€™s just as entertaining as the original. Since then, production details have begun to surface, and the series began filming in early 2024.

Filming finally wrapped in July 2024, and Starz shared the exciting news on the official Outlander page on Instagram. Despite the lengthy stretch of time between the show’s wrap and the end of 2024, Starz has yet to assign a release date for Blood of My Blood. This is likely due to the impending second half of Outlander season 7, and it could be that Starz has a very specific release plan in mind that can’t begin until season 7 concludes.

season 7 part 2 premieres on November 22, 2024.

The character of Jamie tells the story of his parents’ marriage in the first season of Outlander, revealing that it was a forbidden romance that happened despite their families’ objections. This is sure to be a major plot point in Outlander: Blood of My Blood, keeping tensions high between the characters from start to finish. Author Diana Gabaldon also teased some ideas that sheโ€™s woven into Brian and Ellenโ€™s romance: โ€œThere will be a lot of clan politics and other interesting thingsโ€ (via Parade).
