Despite not being created yet, Ridley Scott’s dream movie sounds way more exciting than another Alien movie as it showcases a move away from the director’s usual work. Since the release of the first Alien movie in 1979, Ridley Scott has become synonymous with Alien’s famous science fiction franchise despite only directing three films; Alien, Prometheus, and Alien: Covenant. As of 2024, there have been seven movies in the franchise, with more upcoming Alien movies and TV shows planned for the future following the box office success of 2024’s Alien: Romulus, which Ridley Scott produced.
However, Alien is not the award-winning director’s only project, as Ridley Scott has many other action-packed movies in a variety of genres, including the likes of Blade Runner, Kingdom of Heaven, and Gladiator, which have seen similar success. Previously, Ridley Scott cited John Wayne’s The Searchers as being the movie that influenced his directorial career, stating that The Searchers blew Scott away, and that he is a huge fan of the Western genre. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ridley Scott reiterated this point in discussing his production company, Scott Free, remarking, “I’m a Western fanatic and I haven’t done that yet,” although his company is involved in a proposed Blood Meridian movie adaptation and a Blood and Thunder series.

There is another Alien movie in development by Ridley Scott, alongside an Alien: Romulus sequel, demonstrating that the director and producer is not yet done with the franchise. However, with 7 movies currently in Alien’s franchise, a Ridley Scott Western would be more exciting as it offers Scott a new genre, enabling him to define it in the way that he helped to define science fiction. A modern Ridley Scott Western movie would be something completely different to his previous movies, so we have no idea what to expect, unlike Alien, which has a long history attached to it.

Ridley Scott has won awards for The Martian and Alien, two science fiction movies, and has been nominated for 27 awards, with films in the crime, drama, and war genres. While some of Ridley Scott’s movies do cover historical periods of time, such as Napoleon being set amid the French Revolution, following Napoleon’s rise to power, the director has yet to do anything really resembling a Western, despite the director’s passion for the genre.
