There are several reasons why CBS’ Ghosts is not on during the week of December 26. The hiatus is disappointing because the supernatural sitcom left off after an exciting turn of events allowed Jay to finally see the ghosts. There had been widespread speculation about how that would happen since news broke season and whether it would be connected to Ghosts adding another character inspired by the UK version of the series. Ghosts’ Christmas episodes provided the opportunity for it to happen when Pete possessed Jay.
Pete possessed Jay because he needed to see Laura one last time before she left for Australia, but the other spirits inspired by the UK version of Ghosts were unhappy about this decision. The other ghosts were right, as Jay was briefly turned into a zombie when Pete hugging Laura ejected him from Jay’s body. Fortunately, Jay’s spirit was restored to his body before the ending credits rolled. Jay also gained greater insight into his parents’ dreams during the episode, leading to a touching final scene that left the audience eager for the next installment.
Why There Is No New Ghosts Season 4 This Week (December 26) & When Episode 10 Releases
Ghosts aired the “Ghostmas” doubleheader on December 19, 2024, because it was going on a scheduled break afterward. These were the final episodes planned to air in 2024, as the series is on winter hiatus. This is common during the holiday season, as the extended break allows the cast and crew to take a break from filming and enjoy time with their families and frees the time slot for special programming. Networks often take this break around Christmas time, when people are too busy with holiday preparation to watch new episodes of TV shows.

If BBC Australia’s upcoming Ghosts remake is to succeed, it needs to include these four things.
Christmas is over, so CBS is not airing holiday specials tonight. However, the network is acknowledging the holiday by airing previous Ghostmas episodes from 8 PM ET to 10 PM ET. From 8 to 9, Ghosts season 2 Christmas episodes will air, followed by the season 3 Christmas episodes at 9. CBS will likely continue running reruns of Ghosts in its usual timeslot throughout the hiatus, though it may also occasionally pre-empt the series altogether for special programming.
When Will Ghosts Season 4, Episode 10 Release?
New Episodes Don’t Air For A While
Unfortunately, Ghosts’ winter break will last another month. CBS started its winter hiatus around Christmas, which means that new Thursday night shows will not air until January 30, so Ghosts, along with Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Matlock, and Elsbeth are all on a long break. This hiatus means that it will take until almost February to learn what’s next for Jay now that he has finally interacted with the ghosts and how his experiences will affect his relationship with Sam.

While this long break is frustrating, it also provides the audience with the opportunity to catch up on episodes that they missed during the season or previous seasons. CBS may rerun some episodes of Ghosts, and all four seasons are available to stream on Paramount+ This service also streams the UK show that Ghosts is based on, which allows for the comparison of the two series while waiting for CBS to resume airing new episodes of Ghosts.
What To Expect From Ghosts Season 4, Episode 10
The Series Will Explore The Ghosts’ Past More
While CBS hasn’t revealed much about Ghosts season 4, episode 10 except for the broadcast date, star Rose McIver has teased that the second half of the season will go into the ghosts’ backstories a bit more, specifically mentioning: “We have some Pete-centric material in the episode I direct.” (via Deadline) Thus, once the series returns, it is expected to offer plenty of flashbacks and other material related to all of the spirits’ life stories, especially Pete’s. Additionally, McIver shared that several of the stories will take the ghosts away from the mansion.
Since most of the ghosts can’t leave the property except via possession, this suggests more stories are coming up in Ghosts that involve the ghosts entering Sam, Jay, or other living people’s bodies. Additionally, it is not clear yet what fallout there may be from Jay having seen the spirits in Ghosts. These exciting story teases will help make up for the long wait before the series returns, but they also it more difficult to be patient during the next several weeks while the supernatural comedy is on hiatus.

Ghosts (US) is a comedic series centering on a young couple who inherit an old mansion only to discover it is inhabited by eclectic spirits from different historical periods, blending humor and history as they navigate life among the dead.
